August 12, 2026- UNITED STATES GOLD COINS-WILD WEST GOLD

Hello All,

I hope all is well. We're watching the gold market recover a bit. Who would have thought we would be "recovering a bit" at over $4,000/oz? But here we are. In my opinion this has thrown many dates in the double eagles series into complete discount mode when there's no less demand, just a craze for common metal that for a while sucked some of the oxygen out of the room for scarce date double eagles and as far as commons, as they say up yonder "fohgetabout it". The opportunity in the scarcer dates will not last forever and deals like you are seeing right now can suddenly stop on a dime ( no pun intended ) and todays prices will become just a memory as it's happened so many times in the 40+ years yours truly has been engaged in this trade.

This weeks hand picked offerings begins with a Major early US gold rarity of 1797/5 BD-7 L.E. which due to technical nonsense required us to send again this week, followed by a very choice uncirculated MS-63 1892-CC Half Eagle in NGC MS-63 followed by a scarce early Eagle minted in 1842-O New Orleans that is about uncirculated, next up an uncirculated and scarce 1860-S double eagle which may have been in a lock box somewhere on the trail in an armed stagecoach when in just a few months war would break out with shots being fired at Ft Sumter South Carolina which sparked the bloodiest and most important war fought on American soil since the American Revolution. The wild west will remain in our focus though for the rest of the handpicked scarcities and rarities that are presented this week. Next is a rare 1873-CC Double Eagle in very choice about uncirculated condition and with great eye appeal, followed by a choice uncirculated 1883-CC double eagle right next to an 1884-CC $20 also in choice uncirculated condition followed by one of the rarest of all the Carson City Double Eagles,, the highly sought after 1891-CC in PCGS VF25 that appears even nicer under the loupe. For this weeks "lagniappe", an exceptionally rare and neat gold quarter eagle struck in copper and graded Proof 65 Red-Brown and is one of very few that exist and under 10K which should make the pattern and gold collector jump!
